Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

Gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit-trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so.

Gen 1:13 And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years:
Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Gen 1:21 And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that moveth, wherewith the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.
Gen 1:23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
Gen 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kind: and it was so.
Gen 1:25 And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the ground after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food:
Gen 1:30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.
Gen 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

En julio de 1986, durante una fiesta organizada por Freddie Mercury, John Deacon miraba a su alrededor y pensaba, «esto no es lo mío». En un momento dado, se deslizó de su silla en silencio y se escondió debajo de la mesa. La escena da buena cuenta del carácter introvertido del bajista de Queen, un tipo al que nunca le gustaron los excesos de la fama, mucho menos las excentricidades típicas de las rock stars. Treinta años después, seguía siendo el mismo: en 2016, el músico fue abordado a las puertas del London Astoria por un grupo de seguidores de Queen, que enloquecieron al ver al genio creador de las líneas de bajo de «Under Pressure» y «Another one bites the dust». Deacon, sorprendido, respondió a las peticiones de fotos y autógrafos con un pacato «oh, lo siento, lo siento», tapándose la cara con las manos de pura vergüenza.
Cuando alcanzó el éxito mundial con Queen, aún siendo muy joven, John Deacon se casó su esposa, Veronica Tetzlaff, y se compró una casa en el sur de Londres, donde terminaron criando seis hijos. Allí lleva viviendo más de 40 años, y dedica su tiempo al golf, a la familia y a tomar té en la tranquilidad ajena a los focos mediáticos. No ha dado entrevistas en veinte años, y apenas se ha dejado fotografiar por la prensa en sus paseos matutinos por su barrio. Ni siquiera se ha presentado en ningún acto público de Queen en todo este tiempo, incluyendo el estreno de «Bohemian Rhapsody» o la gala en la que se acogió la grupo en el Salón de la Fama del Rock & Roll. «Pierdes tu tiempo si intentas encontrar a John», dijo un vecino al Daily Mail hace un par de años. «Sí, vive allí, pero no habla, con nadie. No lo he visto en mucho tiempo, está bien, solo que vive en privado».
El show no debe continuar
Deacon fue el único que tuvo absolutamente claro que la banda no debía segur cuando murió Freddie Mercury . «En lo que a nosotros respecta, esto es todo. No tiene sentido continuar. Es imposible reemplazar a Freddie», dijo el bajista, que al parecer era el que mejor se llevaba con Mercury a nivel personal.
Deacon lanzó un álbum como solista en 1986 y creó un grupo paralelo, The Immortals, con el que sacó un único single. Se reunió con Queen solo para terminar el último álbum de la banda, «Made in heaven» , y también participó en la grabación de «No-One But You, el único single del grupo sin Mercury, lanzado en 1997». En directo, solo apareció en el concierto benéfico que sirvió como tributo al vocalista en 1992, en un recital para recaudar fondos con Roger Taylor en Midhurst en 1993, y en la apertura del Ballet en París en 1997, interpretando The Show Must Go On con Elton John. Además, acompaño a Spike Edney, teclista colaborador de Queen, en algunas de sus actuaciones con la SAS Band. Pero desde entonces, reclusión total.
Para poder llevar una vida tranquila, Deacon llegó a un acuerdo con Brian May y Roger Taylor, de manera que éstos pudieran seguir usando el nombre del grupo y hacer con él lo que quisieran, siempre y cuando le consultaran antes de tomar decisiones importantes, como las giras con Paul Rodgers y Adam Lambert, el lanzamiento de recopilatorios, la aprobación de musicales y, por supuesto la película «Bohemian Rhapsody». «La gran mayoría de las veces ni siquiera nos responde. Eso sí: los cheques los acepta todos. No estamos en contacto porque John es realmente un sociópata. Ha dado su bendición a lo que Brian y yo podemos hacer con la marca Queen. Y desde luego lo hemos aprovechado muy bien», dijo Taylor en una ocasión. «Es su elección», añadió May. «No se pone en contacto con nosotros. John era bastante delicado desde el principio».
Con esos cheques, Deacon ha acumulado un patrimonio de 135 millones de dólares sin hacer nada. Sólo vive de las rentas de lo que Queen consiguió en sus años dorados, y quizá sea por eso que no quiere llevarse más mérito del merecido, ni gastarse el dinero en lujos y caprichitos de estrella del rock. Ni coches de lujo, ni viajes a todo tren, ni inmensas propiedades repartidas por el mundo. Deacon no ha tenido debilidades de millonario en todo este tiempo.
