La muerte de Mozart el 5 de diciembre de 1791 se presentó de una forma completamente inesperada. En los últimos días de su vida Mozart siguió trabajando en la composición de su obra “Réquiem”. . .

. . . . . . . con mucho esfuerzo y con la ayuda de su alumno Franz Xaver Süßmayer. Mozart no pudo terminarla. Los últimos compases musicales fueron compuestos por su alumno Franz Xaver Süßmayer.

La tarde del 4 de diciembre: Mozart se encontraba muy mal, tenía muchísima fiebre y deliraba. Cuando el médico le hizo una sangría y le colocó una compresa fría en la frente, Mozart se desmayó. A la una de la mañana del 5 de diciembre de 1791 Mozart murió de una forma repentina y completamente inesperada. Constanze estaba rota de dolor. Sus amigos se ocuparon del entierro. Después de su muerte, su cuerpo fue introducido en un barato ataúd de pino y fue bendecido rápidamente en la calle que hay junto a la catedral de San Esteban de Viena. Desde allí fue llevado sin ningún cortejo fúnebre o acompañamiento al cementerio de St. Marx, situado en las afueras de la ciudad. Solo el enterrador estuvo presente cuando el cadáver de Mozart fue envuelto en una sábana y enterrado en una tumba simple compartida junto a otros cinco cadáveres. El sitio exacto no se conoce. Un monumento erigido en el cementerio vienés de St. Marx muchos años después de la muerte de Mozart, conmemora la figura del gran compositor y músico de todos los tiempos.

Digresión sobre el ordenamiento de los enterramientos en la Viena de Joseph II

Fue mucho lo que se escribió, y también será mucho lo que se escribirá, a cerca de este indignante y miserable entierro de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(comparándolo con las costumbres actuales). Casi siempre se pasa por alto que este tipo de enterramientos eran absolutamente normales en tiempos del emperador Joseph II. Para el emperador los caros y opulentos enterramientos de la cultura vienesa habían sido una gran molestia y con su nuevo orden para los enterramientos prohibió a sus súbditos la tan amada pompa que hasta que él llegó al trono se venía realizando. Los cuerpos no podían ser ni siquiera enterrados en un ataúd, tan solo podían llevarse dentro del ataúd hasta el lugar del enterramiento. Además se enterraban siempre cinco cuerpos en una misma tumba, lápidas y flores estaban prohibidas.

   There is no person who remains indifferent to his voice. Women and men rejoice and cry at the same time. There are no indifferent social classes. All one, even if he sings in another language.

  I listen to his songs and I do not cry or laugh. A dreamlike sensation transports me to another world where there is only harmony and love for God.

   Se ha dicho que es el cantante que hace llorar a los otros cantantes.

  No transmite lirismo, ni clasicismo, ni barroco. Trasmite emociones con su registro prodigioso.

  Nadie queda indiferente ante alguna de sus canciones. Que si estacato, que si vibrato,  que si voz bien colocada, que si canta desde un tenor a una mesosoprano y barítono, que tiene algo de un castrati del siglo XVII en sus tonos más agudos Una voz en que se mezclan la de una dama y un hombre.

  Y no es Gay.

   Desde el registro más bajo, casi un murmullo, al canto agudo de un ruiseñor en celo al amanecer.

  No hay persona que permanezca indiferente ante su voz. Mujeres y hombres se regocijan y lloran a la vez. No hay clases sociales indiferentes. Todos uno solo, aunque cante en otro idioma. 

  Yo escucho sus canciones y no lloro ni rio. Una sensación de ensueño  me transporta a otro mundo donde solo existe armonía y amor a Dios.

  Una voz privilegiada que acerca la música clásica a los ritmos modernos-menos al Reggetón- sin esfuerzo, natural, con pleno dominio escénico y sabiendo el efecto que produce el embeleso de su voz en las multitudes.

  Digo que es como el nuevo Mozart del siglo XXI.  Pavarotti se despierta en su tumba cuando lo escucha.

  Y en el cielo, cuando el chico comienza a cantar, Dios entrecierra los ojos y estrecha la mano de su querido Hijo y ambos redescubren una maravilla de su creación.
