Do not touch anything
The destruction of Punta Ballena can be avoided without the Uruguayan State having to put money into saving one of the country's main resources and natural attractions. Sources from the Executive Tower report on efforts by President Lacalle Pou to obtain funds from international environmental institutions or patrons with considerable financial means and interest in preserving said resources and converting them into protected public parks. "There is plenty of money in the world to carry out expropriations that go in the direction of caring for the environment," the specialists acknowledge. "What is not yet abundant is political will, especially in developing countries," they add. During his visit to Tsinghua University, during his recent trip to China, President Lacalle Pou spoke to students about caring for the environment. "Today it begins to take precedence in the great leaders and that spreads to other nations, that caring for the environment has an economic value. And that is typical of the demand of the new generations. This is thanks to the fact that the new consumers have more social awareness ", expressed Lacalle Pou among other concepts. The Uruguayan president has the opportunity to set a strong precedent in our country and in the region, by making the correct decision in environmental matters, without costs for the country and its population. According to the sources consulted, that would be precisely their opinion in this case. This idea would also coincide with the attitude of the current national government in the care of environmental and historical resources that it has developed during its administration, which would mean an imprint of utmost importance at the national and international level in the preservation and defense of said resources.BY ALFREDO LARA
