Charles Bukowski murió de leucemia el 9 de marzo de 1994 en San Pedro, California, a la edad de 73 años. Sus últimos escritos como “blue”, “a summation”, “my last winter” y “like a dolphin”, retratan los últimos días del escritor norteamericano.

Como un delfín

Morir tiene su lado difícil.
No hay escapatoria.
El guardián tiene su ojo en mí.
Su ojo malo.
Estoy cumpliendo la condena ahora.
En soledad.
Encerrado.
No soy el último ni el primero.
Sólo te estoy diciendo cómo es.
Me siento sobre mi propia sombra.
El rostro de los ancianos oscurece.
Las viejas canciones todavía suenan.
Con una mano en mi mentón, sueño con
nada mientras mi perdida infancia
salta como un delfín
en el mar congelado.
