“Venderemos a valores similares en d贸lares a Argentina.

More investment. More work. They keep choosing, our beloved country. Investment: 1 million, 200 thousand dollars, in 3 locations and they plan one more in Punta del Este. The country. XL, the Argentine brand that will invest US$ 1.2 million to open three stores in Uruguay. “The first location will be in Nuevocentro Shopping, then in Tres Cruces Shopping and the third in another shopping center in Montevideo. The Argentine brand XL, specialized in everyday, comprehensive and accessible fashion accessories, is preparing its arrival in the Uruguayan market for March. To achieve this, the company plans to make an investment of US$ 1.2 million to build three of its own stores over the course of this year, Lucas Tobal, partner and director of the company, confirmed to El Empresario. The decision comes after two previous attempts by the brand to open in Uruguay but with another model, that of franchises. «We had been there before 2000 with two franchises but the economic crisis of those years affected a lot and they ended up closing. Then we tried again but it didn't work either. Now we have reached a level of brand maturity that allows us to leave Argentina with our own capital and we chose Uruguay as the first destination to do so," commented Tobal. XL specializes in durable everyday fashion accessories, highly concentrated in leather and vinyl handbags and wallets (the vinyl handbag is their workhorse), backpacks, pashminas, as well as footwear and jackets, with a target audience characterized by customers from middle and upper-middle class. The company will open its first store in Nuevocentro Shopping at the beginning of March and a couple of weeks later it will open the second in Tres Cruces Shopping. The third location is not yet defined, but it will surely be in another shopping center. "We define that this way because we are a brand that bases our growth on shopping malls, we know and feel comfortable in these commercial spaces," explained Tobal. In all cases, the Argentine firm looks for spaces of about 65 square meters where it can provide "the same experience as in Argentina," the businessman clarified. In this way, it will be able to offer the 15 product categories that the brand has. Tobal also highlighted that this "same experience" will also be reflected in the prices. “We will sell at similar values in dollars to Argentina. The idea is that they can purchase the products in Uruguay without the need to travel to Argentina. As an example, a synthetic material backpack will cost around $2,300.” The openings in Montevideo this year will be the basis for the company to continue growing in the country. Tobal announced that they are studying arriving in Punta del Este but clarified that "to establish a consumer brand in Uruguay, it is first important to establish itself in Montevideo." "We want to identify with the Uruguayan consumer, not just be an Argentine brand in the country," the businessman emphasized. With the three houses, XL will employ about 30 people, but as the business grows the workforce will increase since at the beginning several of its management areas, such as logistics, will be outsourced. In parallel, the brand has already launched its e-commerce in Uruguay with all its products and shipments within Montevideo in 24 hours and within 48 hours. Once the stores open, they will add pick-ups, he concluded. A COMPANY THAT SEEKS TO BE OF GLOBAL SIZE According to Lucas Tobal, partner and director of the family business (third generation), the name XL was chosen by the partners about 40 years ago to name the brand that already had plans to expand to the world. Currently, it has 102 stores in Argentina and will begin its internationalization in Uruguay. "I am expectant and waiting for sales to accompany us so that the growth is exponential and in a short time we will be a brand with more stores in Uruguay."
