THE CINEMA AND CARLOS GARDEL

 The cinema was a most suitable field for Carlos Gardel to develop his great expressiveness. His gestures were ideal for silent cinema. His first venture into the big screen was the silent film "Flor de Durazno” (Peach blossom) after which he starred in "Films with Sketch", the first Argentinian film to incorporate sound and which is considered a pioneer of video clips; thus, the figure of Gardel is linked again with the technological innovations of the entertainment business. “Luces de Buenos Aires” (The lights of Buenos Aires) marked the beginning of the Paramount Films series. The first four ones were shot at the Joinville Studios in Paris; the following year he starred in “Espérame”(Wait for Me), “La casa es seria” (The House is Serious) and “Melodía de arrabal” (Suburban Melody).

At the studios on Long Island, New York, he continued filming the latest productions: “Cuesta Abajo” (Downward Slope), “El tango en Broadway” (Tango on Broadway) and “The big broadcast of 1935” (Star hunters), “El día que me quieras” (The day you love me) and “Tango Bar”. Gardel was the composer of many of the songs he sang in those films.
