"The timeless song, the one that nobody remembers when or how it was heard for the first time, the one that every now and then returns to our ears so that time stands still. As in other Gardel films, here there is a departure, a ship and a return, a return that Carlos decides to undertake by singing while the images of a bright city come back to him: that Buenos Aires of the 1930s that by then had become increasingly distant. It seems a mockery of fate that the most iconic songs of Gardel and Le Pera were composed and recorded far away from Buenos Aires, and that this return, so often made out of a song, never took place."
